Humphrey and Stretton are constantly aware of the important legislation surrounding disabled access to buildings and adjoining doors within different sectors in the market. Whether it is a school, hospital or an office development, disabled access always needs to be recognised. Vision Panels and Effective Clear Opening Widths should always conform to Approved Document M where possible, with different requirements for new builds and refurbishments, where consideration needs to be taken with structural impracticalities.
If we see a design which is likely to fall foul of the requirements set out in the Part M requirements we will notify the main contractor or architect where we feel it is our place to do so. If a design can be adjusted to suit these guidelines we will recommend a cost-effective method of making sure a doorset is compliant where possible.
The below illustrations represent effective clear width and visibility requirements in accordance with Approved Document Part M.
