Starting the 60th Year of Humphrey & Stretton plc

This year we turn 60!

Started by Kenneth Humphrey & Bob Stretton in Kenneth’s garage on Murchison Road, Hoddesdon making doors, frames, staircases and bespoke joinery Humphrey & Stretton plc was registered with Companies House on the 11th April 1961. With a growing order book they very quickly ran out of space in the garage along with hours in the day to price & complete orders. They rented a small factory and employed staff in Walton Road, Hoddesdon where the business grew further.

After a large fire in 1970s which demolished the small factory and neighbouring properties Kenneth purchased and built our current Office & Factory, Stretton House, Pindar Road, Hoddesdon and continuing under the sole control of the Humphrey Family all of which employed at Humphrey & Stretton plc.

Today with the 3rd Generation in the company, a full order book and more colleagues in the office to deal with demand we look set for another 60 years and can’t wait!

Seeing the impact of disasters such as Grenfell Tower Fire and now the Coronavirus global pandemic Humphrey & Stretton have continued to provide essential Fire Doors & Joinery to schools, hospitals and bespoke products with our colleagues identified as essential workers to ensure hospital wards can be converted to COVID-19 wards without delay.

Our priorities have always been to look after our team, support our customers and produce a high quality safety product to help keep you and your loved ones safe. For many years now we have been busy with a constant order book and are thankful to our customers for their continued support.

Since the start we have been Made In Britain – Supporting British companies, local employment and more recently sustainability through our FSC Controlled Wood ensuring our wood is forested in a sustainable manner.

Reinvesting in our machinery and the skill of our staff means our Fire Doors & Joinery are manufactured to a better quality with more precision than ever before with more reinvestment due this year.
